Preferably surf schools in Europe or South America. Also, if you can let me know how difficult it is, and how long it takes before it is actually enjoyable. Thanks.
Or Mexico…

I love skimboarding, but I’m a 20 year old girl and I wonder if its too late to get into the contest scene. I would like to pick up a few sponsors (like small surf shops, etc, not big pro sponsors). I just want to get into the circuit, but I don’t think I’ll be ready to compete until Summer 09, and I’ll be 21, is that too old?

I’m really interested in surfing and really eager to try it. My friend has offered to teach me to surf, but i think i’m gonna get a professional help. So here are my question

1) What basic thing should you learn (beside swimming) before going to surf (picking the board, basic movement, etc)?
2) Can you recommend a good surfing school in LA where they lend you a surf board (i don’t have any board yet)?
3) How long does it usually take to learn surfing basics?

Thank you :)

I am 5′7″ and 138 lbs.
I’ve been surfing for a while now, and I want to start the transition from a 9ft long board to a shorter board which I can improve on and get better. The thing is I am not to sure of what board to get. I am sticking with surfing and I want to start to learn tricks. Before I go to the surf shop I want to know what I should be asking about.

My son is making a skim board to take on spring break to South Carolina. It is the third one he’s made and they are a lot of fun but we can never seem to get that heavy lacquer wax-able finish like they have on surf boards. We have been using a spar varnish with about 5 coats on each side. Any other ideas?

I have quite poor vision and I’m a keen surfer. I usually wear my spare glasses while surfing but lost them last I went during a wipe out.

I’ve heard you can’t wear contact lenses in water. I don’t want to loose my remaining last pair of glasses either.

Laser surgery is not an option.

Any ideas? Thanks!

This is a great surfing shop in New Buffalo Michigan, only an hour at most from Chicago. Professional surfer Ryan Gerard owns and operates the shop. This is a great place for anyone who loves water sports! Skimboards, surfboards, wet suits, skateboards, this shop has it all!!!
